Geographical Indications (GIs) identify a good as originating in the territory of a particular country, or a region or locality in a country, where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the good is essentially attributable to the physical place of origin. Johnston Law advises on the synergies and conflicts around the globe arising from the inherent tension between the rights asserted by traditional trade-mark rights holders and parties with vested interests in GIs.

Managing Partner of Johnston Law, Keri Johnston, is currently the Vice Chair of MARQUES’ Geographical Indications Team and a member of INTA’s Geographical Indications Subcommittee.
Johnston Law is based out of Toronto, Canada and services clients worldwide. Please contact us for more information.
